"Winston Choi performed in place of the scheduled soloist, and conquered the course in a musical, athletic manner. He has proved on previous occasion, as he certainly did here, a commanding technique."
"Choi disposed of Prokofiev's killer Concerto No.2 in G Minor as if doing so were easy. What's more, along the way, he seemed to be having fun, permitting subtle smiles sneak to across his face. Fortunately, he had a large and cheering audience at the Musical Arts Center; the response was enthusiastic, to say the least...people shouted and gave the fellow a standing ovation." |

| "Choi, winner of the student piano competition, met every challenge, including first and fourth movement cadenzas that test a pianist's technical prowess to the limit. He appeared to revel in display in every propulsive passage, and in all the explosive octave work. What one heard also from this agile young pianist was the occasional subtlety that Prokofiev's score also calls for." |

"Through lavish phrases, riots of descending and ascending chords, runs and trills and other dazzlements, Choi gave voice to the (Liszt Second) concerto, a single movement entity that builds toward a series of stunning climaxes."
"When he was done, a young, large, and enthusiastic audience cheered heartily. Many attendees rose to pay their respects for what this most promising pianist had accomplished. He was deserving of the reception. One could easily be impressed not only by the skill level of his technique but by a poetry in the hands and heart that revealed itself when the score permitted some rhapsodizing." |
