Collegium Pro Musica
Collegium Pro Musica

The Collegium Pro Musica is an Italian ensemble founded in 1998 by Stefano Bagliano, an internationally respected virtuoso on the recorder. The Collegium specializes in late-Renaissance and Baroque repertory, performed on period instruments, and according to the known practices of the periods in which the works were written. Its forces are variable, ranging from a trio to a larger Baroque ensemble, enabling it to perform a wide-ranging repertory.

Stefano Bagliano is considered among the finest performers of the recorder today. Upon graduation from the Conservatory of Padua, he continued private studies with such recorder virtuosi as Franz Bruggen, Kees Boeke, Walter van Hauwe, and Pedro Memelsdorff. He has won several national and international music competitions, and has performed as a soloist in prominent festivals and halls throughout Europe and the US, including a 2001 performance at Carnegie Hall. Among other permanent members of the Collegium include violinist Federico Gugliemo and harpsichordist Claudio Astronio.

The Collegium has performed at numerous international music festivals, including the Rencontres Internationales d'Art Baroque en Provence (Avignon, 1995, 1997), Amici della Musica (Florence), Festival Nice Baroque en Musique, and the Festival Internazionale Arti Boracche (Rome, Genoa, and Siracusa) - always receiving great critical acclaim. They have, thus far, released several recordings for the Tactus, Dynamic, and Nuova Era labels. We are delighted to include two recent Tactus releases here at the Classical Archives, and look forward to future releases by this outstanding ensemble.

Fanfare (USA)

"Young ensembles of high technical and musical quality: the Collegium Pro Musica is such an ensemble...the ornamentation is appropriate and the handling of dissonance and dynamics well balanced, allowing the expressive qualities of the music to step forward."
