Dear Colleagues,
All of us who work with young musicians want our ensembles to play and sing with accuracy,
expression, and compelling rhythm. We want our students to watch us, and to take full
responsibility for observing every mark on the page - not just the notes. And we want our
rehearsals to energize the young musicians, and inspire them to practice and fulfill their
musical and personal potential.
These are the kinds of experiences we want for our ensembles, but creating them regularly in
today's school environment can be a real challenge. That's why an important part of our Music
Education initiative here at the Classical Archives is addressing the professional development
needs of school ensemble directors. In the discussions we'll add to the site each month, I'll
share some practical ideas that you can use right away to help your ensembles grow.
We hope you'll find them useful and effective - please let us know how they work for you. We'd
also welcome any tips you'd care to share, as well as any questions or suggestions.
With All Best Wishes,
David Barg, Learning Center Director
